THE FALLS

The FALLS was devised for Art in Transit – a scheme designed to place art in Bangalore’s Metro system. The work was completed by 20 students from Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology over a period of three weeks in December 2019.⁣The exhibition extended into 2020
⁣The installation consisted of 5 parts; a large format book, screen printed and cyanotype banners, a video projection, vinyl prints on the staircase risers and a laser installation at Vijayanagar station.

“The Fall”, which describes the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden, has been a popular theme in European art since the Renaissance. This project sets out to describe the various strands of contemporary estrangement, conflating the deterioration of the environment with our apparent readiness to embrace life in “Uncanny Valley”.

Students had to learn a number of techniques they were not already familiar with such as analogue B&W photography including printing, preparing acetates for silk-screen, scanning and printing on a large format Epson printer, printing on vinyl, cyanotype, using UV exposure Unit. Preparing material for video and video editing and projection. and installing the work at the end
